Power of Attorney to be used in Cyprus: IMPORTANT POINTS.
The power of attorney is a document which allows a nominated person to act on your behalf and to complete the necessary actions in your absence. Your Property Lawyer in Cyprus will often use a power of attorney to represent you regarding your cyprus property, cyprus title deeds or other matters relating to your interests in cyprus.
There are some very important points that you must take heed of when signing a power of attorney.
Before you proceed to make any arrangements for signing, you must check: the spelling of your name, your identity card or passport number and address are correct. If there are mistakes you need to speak to the person who prepared the document to correct this before you sign.
Secondly, the power of attorney must but either signed by yourself and witnessed by either:
- At a certifying officer, or a Notary Public in Cyprus
- A notary republic in your country and then APOSTILED (Below is a link to the notary republics in the UK)

- Important note. The Notary public or the Certifying officer is Cyprus Charges are considerably lower than the UK ones. So we do advise you do to make the power of attorney in Cyprus.
A bank officer, a vet, a doctor cannot certify your power of attorney. It will not be valid for use in Cyprus if you certify in this way.
It is important to note the following:
- The power of attorney must be signed in BLUE INK.
- The power of attorney must be initialed on each page.
- The certifying officer / notary / embassy must stamp/initial each page and if the power of attorney is multiple pages, the ‘join’ of the pages must be stamped to show continuation and that this is one document.
- The power of attorney must be dated.
- The power of attorney must include a stamp/declaration which states:
The present document has been signed in my presence today by …………… (your name should be completed here) with passport number …………………. (your passport number should be completed here)
