🐢 HOW CAN YOU HELP PROTECT CYPRUS’ SEA TURTLES? 🐢

A recent video of a sea turtle off the coast of Protaras captured the attention of social media users across Cyprus. In the footage, the turtle was seen swimming and eating lettuce leaves while residents and visitors watched in delight.

However, many people may not realize that feeding sea turtles in Cyprus is prohibited by law. ❌

Feeding turtles can disrupt their natural behavior, affect their instincts, and reduce their ability to survive in the wild.

If you encounter a sea turtle, please follow these important guidelines:

🐢 Keep a respectful distance and avoid frightening or disturbing the turtle.

🐢 Do not touch turtles. Physical contact can cause them stress and may trigger defensive behavior.

🐢 Avoid using flash photography, as it can disorient or scare turtles.

🐢 When observing or filming hatchlings, never use flashlights or bright lights, as these can prevent them from finding their way to the sea.

🐢 If visiting turtle nesting beaches, stay on designated paths to protect nesting sites and surrounding vegetation.

Remember: disturbing, harming, or interfering with sea turtles and their habitats can result in severe penalties, including fines of up to €20,000 and imprisonment for up to three years. 🔒

Let’s do our part to protect these remarkable marine creatures and ensure Cyprus remains a safe place for them to thrive. 💙🌊
