Boy George helps for the return of a 300-Year-Old Christian Orthodox Artifact in Cyprus.

Amazing news, the famous artist, Boy George has returned a 300-year-old icon of Christ that had been stolen following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, an event known in Greek as “Attila.”

According to reports, the icon had originally been taken from a church in the occupied areas of Cyprus after the events of 1974. It later surfaced abroad through an illegal antiquities trafficking network that moved religious artifacts and cultural treasures out of the island.

Boy George reportedly acquired the icon without knowing its origin or the circumstances under which it had been removed from the church. Once he learned that the artifact had been stolen from a Cypriot place of worship, he immediately took steps to return it.

The icon was handed over in cooperation with the relevant authorities and the Church of Cyprus, marking an important act of cultural restitution.

The case once again highlights the widespread looting of religious and cultural heritage that occurred after the 1974 invasion. Thousands of icons, frescoes, and ecclesiastical artifacts were removed from churches in the occupied areas and illegally trafficked abroad, with many of them still missing today.

Boy George’s gesture has been widely welcomed by church representatives and Cypriot authorities, who described it as both a symbolic and meaningful contribution to the ongoing efforts to restore the island’s cultural and religious heritage.
