CAR LICENSE REGISTRATION PLATES

On 3rd June 2013 a law was passed in Cyprus, amending the design of car license plates which had been in place for many years. Following Cyprus Accession to the EU in 2004, Car registration plates were subsequently replaced from plastic to METAL, (Previously between 1973 and 2004 they were plastic).

The new law passed on 03.06.2013, resulted in altering the white plates on the front of the vehicle and yellow plates on the rear of the vehicle to both plates being white. The new plates also include the year of registration of the vehicle in Cyprus as well as bearing a blue band on the left hand side, with the European Union circle and stars in the top Left hand side and the international vehicle registration code ‘CY’ in the bottom left side.

Some cars, have not yet changed their registration plates from the old style, white on the front and yellow on the back and we do encourage our clients, colleagues and associates who have not yet changed their license plates to do so.

The procedure is simple and relatively inexpensive.

Documents needed: car registration log book.

Money needed: €15 euro per plate, so for front and back, total is €30 euros for both plates.

A lot of key cutting shops can provide this service and most do not need an appointment.

The time to prepare, make and fit the new plates is approximately 20 minutes, depending on the workload of the license plate maker.
